When the gang learns of a large collection of neglected film prints somewhere in the city from a friend they head out on a search, grail diary in hand. With the hopes of finding, and preserving, a gem from the old cinema going experience of Toronto's past, will the boys turn up a rare, lost film print? Find out now...
Read MoreI’m sure for those people who have made the trek down to The Toronto Underground Cinema will join me in saying that your first impression was of shock. This shock more than likely came from a wonder of how the heck you could have walked around downtown Toronto without realizing there was a 700 seat movie theatre, the second largest single screen in the city, right bellow your feet. I know when I started working on The Rep, and had my first meeting with the boys; I was floored by the place. It is for this reason I thought I’d take a little time to go over some of the history I’ve managed to piece together.
Read MoreAndrew Parker, volunteer extraordinaire, has been working like a dog on a brand new film series that’s about to hit The Underground. DEFENDING THE INDEFENSIBLE is a series where film critics defend the films they love, but everyone else hates. I’m especially excited about this, because what better place to have film series about shitty movies people love than in a repertory cinema like The Underground.
Check out Andy’s blog for more information on the series! “Defending the Indefensible Series Announcement”
Hope to see you all there!
Hi All! Check out my recent interview from the folks at One Cleric Short! Be sure to check out their blog for tons of other great stuff at: http://oneclericshort.blogspot.com
Read MoreHi Folks,
I’m sure you’ve all be wondering where the heck the next episode of The Rep is, and why in gods name does it take so long for a new episode to come out. Well, there is no simple answer that I can give you to explain why there is such a massive gap.
For those of you who come out to The Underground on a regular basis (and a big thanks for that!) and see me filming will know that I spend most of my time at the theatre, trying to capture everything that goes on. You see, what originally started off as a simple web series has become something far greater. With more than 200 hours of footage in the can, a feature length documentary about what it really means to run a single screen theatre in a time where single screen theatres are closing constantly looms in the future. With a full time day job, and now a full time night job, finding the time to edit the web series can be quite hard. I by no means say this as an excuse, and want everyone to know that the web series is still important, and will continue. I just wanted to give you all an update.
Also, just so everyone knows, The Underground will be premiering the first annual Christmas Special on Saturday December 18th. As part of this, I’ll be premiering Episode 4 of The Rep for all in attendance with a couple of surprises. I really hope you can all make it out.
Best,
Morgan

You might have noticed last week that The Rep went live on BlogTo, a local Toronto blog. The folks at BlogTo have been very gracious to help us out by sponsoring the show, and we at The Underground are very excited to be working with them!
In case you hadn’t noticed the posting, here it is in link form:
Behind the Scenes at the Toronto Underground Cinema
Thanks once again to the wonderful folks at BlogTO!
The Rep follows the first year of business for Alex, Charlie, and Nigel as they try to make their theatre, The Toronto Underground Cinema, a success in the dying world of repertory cinema. The film also places the cinema in context to the larger world of rep. Featuring interviews with theatres such as Film Forum in NYC, The Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, and The New Beverly Cinema in L.A., and celebrities such as Kevin Smith, Edgar Wright, John Waters, Atom Egoyan, and George A. Romero, the world of repertory cinema will come alive as a vibrant and culturally significant medium that needs to be preserved
The Rep is also a short 5 part web-series that chronicles certain moments in the first year of operation of The Toronto Underground Cinema.
